DigiService-IP Troubleshooting

DigiService-IP will not start

  • Ensure that the workstation has been configured correctly as described in the section above.
  • Ensure an Author has been configured to download at this workstation, unless at least one is configured DigiService-IP will not start correctly as it assumes it has no work to do.
  • Ensure there is a tick in the correct Facility under the Facility’s Dictation Profile area, this is a licensed application.

WAV Files will not import

  • Restart/Start DigiService-IP, it could be a simple case of the service not being started or the application not running, if this cures the issue you may want to install the to keep an eye on DigiService-IP or ensure that DigiService-IP is in the All-Users Start-up folder if it is running as an application.
  • Check DigiService-IP is connected to the CWAS server by running the DigiService-IP Console application.
  • Ensure the WAV file being imported is placed into an Authors folder, as the WAV file is most likely header-less it must be placed into an Author folder to be imported.
  • Check you have the correct type of WAV file, WAV is only an extension and not a file type, DigiService-IP requires a PCM file of certain formats, you can check the format by looking at C:\Windows Media, all the Windows’s sounds import through DigiService-IP and will give you an idea of the format required. You may see the following error in this instance:
''ERR 15:21:19 Err: CDDDeviceGeneralDataExchange::CDDDeviceGeneralDataExchange(). Failed to call CoInitializeEx API''
  • To convert a file into the correct WAV format you can use this site: , you can also convert a WAV file that is not supported, just upload the file required and select convert. If you have a D00 file that you need to import you can rename the extension to VOX and then convert it here: .
  • Check the file name doesn’t contain any invalid characters, DigiService-IP takes a backup of the original file and appends _D00 to the end of the original file name, if it is not able to read the characters in the original file name it will not be able to rename it correctly and will abort the import process.
  • If you get the following error appearing in the CMIS log it will indicate a permissions issue with the Dictation folder, check that Everyone has Full Access to the Dictation folder and its sub-folders:
SYS 13:57:22 Opening E81064-BRAMSERVCrescendoDictation1001DS14090399999999.D00 in CCSCVoiceHeader::Open SYS 13:57:22

  •  The importing of DS2 files was introduced in version 3.7.1031.26 of DigiScribe-XL and required release 5 of the Olympus Dictation Module, when the Olympus software was updated and became ODMS (Olympus Dictation Module Software) support was then re-introduced in DigiScrtibe-XL version 3.10.114.0, this requires at least version 6.2.2 of the ODMS software and will not work with version 6.1.1, as a work around to the DS2 support the can be used (obtained from the ) and configured to convert the file from DS2 to DSS when downloaded from the device automatically.
  • The following error indicates files have not converted and do not import into the system. Go to the C:\Program Files\Crescendo\DigiScribe-XL\DigiService-IP\PackedError folder and select the sub-folder with the required files and copy them to the CSCDownload folder. If any known files are missing from the PackedError folder, then refer to the Backup folder and locate the required files.

  • The following error indicates that specialities and work types have been configured for sub-folders, but the folders have been deleted from the disk. To resolve this, remove Speciality and Work Type from the sub-folders list in DigiService-IP Configuration.

Errors connecting

Any of the following errors indicates an incorrect configuration usually involving a client or server name. If you get any of these error messages then close the DigiService application and uninstall. Remove any Crescendo registry entries and delete any remaining files on the client: %APPDATA%Crescendo folder and C:Program FilesCrescendo. Reinstall the Crescendo DigiScribe software including the DigiService-IP component and reconfigure.

  • Unable to save CWAS connection parameters. The RPC server is unavailable.
  • Failed to get client CWAS connection parameters from server. The RPC server is unavailable.
  • Unable to get sent jobs configurations from server. The RPC server is unavailable.
  • Failed to get logs schedule parameters from server. The RPC server is unavailable.
  • Failed to get disk free space alarm parameter from server. The RPC server is unavailable.
  • Failed to connect to DigiService-IP server. Please contact your system administrator.
  • The CWAS server list is empty.

If DigiService fails to connect to both the DigiServer and CWAS Server on a client machine, then check the DigiService-IP configuration on the Crescendo server using DigiConsole. Either an entry has not been added for the client PC hostname or the hostname has changed. Add or edit an existing entry to ensure the correct hostname, download path and file type are present and then restart the DigiService-IP service on the Crescendo server.

Location of files not imported

  • Any jobs not successfully imported due to permissions issues with the Dictation folder will be in the C:\Program Files\Crescendo\DigiService\PendingJobsErr folder.
  • Any jobs that have not successfully imported due an error or DigiService not functioning properly will be in the C:\Program Files\Crescendo\DigiService\PackedError folder.
  • All jobs attempted to be imported regardless of success will be in the C:\Program Files\Crescendo\DigiService\Backup folder.
  • Any jobs not imported due to an incompatible file format will remain in the DigiService download folder.

Unable to connect to CWAS contact your system administrator

  • Find out if has been working before and what has happened since then, if the computer has been changed it may have a new name and this machine must be registered again within the and users set to download to this new workstation.
  • Close all Crescendo related programs and ensure that there are no Crescendo processes running and perform a repair of the MSI through the control panel, start DigiService-IP again and see if it will connect.
  • Verify you have access to the client installation files, if you do close all Crescendo related programs, ensure that there are no Crescendo processes running, open the registry, delete the following keys, and finally uninstall Crescendo DigiScribe-XL and re-install it:
HKLM\Software\Crescendo

HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Crescendo

HKCU\Software\Crescendo
  • Check the DigiService-IP logs in the %APPDATA% folder to see if they show any reason why the program will not start.
  • Double check the DigiScribe-XL Console to ensure that this computer is registered under DigiService-IP Configuration and that at least one person is set to download to this workstation.

Unable to connect to DIGISERVICE and CWAS contact your system administrator

  • Close all Crescendo related programs and ensure that there are no Crescendo processes running and perform a repair of the MSI through the control panel, start again and see if it will connect.
  • If this does not work then uninstall DigiScribe-XL from the machine and delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Crescendo entry from the registry, reinstall DigiScribe-XL and start DigiService-IP again and see if it will connect (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Crescendo for 64-bit machines).

Imported Olympus files do not have a very good sound quality

DS2 import was introduced in version 3.10.114.0 but Olympus also changed the speed of the WAV file that they save to for conversion, this caused a slowness and/or grainy sound to the voice file after DigiService-IP had finished the import. This was picked up during the 3.12 development cycle and fixed in version 3.13 and in version 3.11.130002.0 (Branch) as this was the version the client was using when found. The branch of the server side (DigiService-IP Setup) has been tested; a branch of the client side (DigiScribe-XL Setup) has also been tested. This issue is no longer apparent in version 3.13 or above.
